He did the experiments on his own, 10 years old and loves science
We buy advent calendars every year, some are 24 days and others are only 12 days. We typically try to find calendars that add value, educational, and good quality. The Thomas & Kosmos calendar is exceptional. It’s a quality contents and educational science experiments are perfect for our 10 year old that loves science. Easy to follow instructions that he doesn’t even need me to help with the simple experiments. I gave him the extra supplies that were needed such as vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and cotton swabs, items we had in the kitchen already.

increible

Excellent product
Amazing advent calendar which offered us good value for money. My son thoroughly enjoyed opening daily to find a new experiment to do. The most exciting advent he has ever had in his own words. Great product

Vente abusive
Très décevant. Imaginez un enfant de 8 ans qui déballe chaque jour un “cadeau” totalement écrit en anglais… Il y a nettement tromperie !

Brilliant advent calendar for older boys
My 10 year old son loved this. We have kept everything so we can keep going back to the experiments. Lovey, small, exciting things to do and learn each day. Really enjoyed them.

Suits under 10s
We like this Calendar even though the experiments are very simple. My daughter is 10. I think its best suits to 7-9 maybe but she still likes it. Just not blown away by it

Excellent for tinkerer’s
My son, a tinkerer, builder and maker absolutely loved opening this calendar each day. So much better than chocolate or sweets!

Not for teens
I am disappointed with this advent calendar. I feel like more money was spent on the boxes holding the “science projects”. These items are not exciting. The listing said 8+ so I bought this for my very enthusiastic science lover 14 year old. Nothing in this box is exciting. Day 4 is a packet of corn starch to make ooblek. We have corn starch. We have magnets. Giving one 2 inch pipette is not a science experiment. I think the only redeeming item in this advent calendar is day 17- a small package of hydrophobic sand. Overall, I’m very disappointed. I’m sad I spent money on this.

BORING and Uningaging
Not actual science experiments. One day was a mirror, next day was a magnet. My 2 boys, 10 and 12 were bored and disappointed. Bummer…..

Compared Science Advents
This year I got my kids each their own advent, and compared science advents. Don’t waste your money on this one unless your kid is wanting crappy paper physics experiments. For exciting chemistry experiments get the National Geographic advent!!

Very disappointing
This was a very disappointing advent calendar. We have had similar priced ones from other companies that had much better items for the same price.

Lots of fun, maybe better for younger end of the age range
This advent calendar was a big hit for my science-loving 9 yr old. He was able to do most of the activities with very little or no help. The 13 yr old also enjoyed some of the activities. Each day has a small item in a numbered box and you unfold the box for instructions to do an experiment using that item, along with a brief explanation to answer the inevitable why/how questions. So many science kits don’t include this explanation, so I was pleased to see that it was included here.Instructions are simple and clear. Some items are also used for future experiments, which is noted when the item is opened. Some basic household items are needed (water, glass, baking soda, sugar, salt, lemon juice, etc.). I do wish they included a list of those items so we would know in advance to have them on hand. One of the later days required two empty 2 liter bottles, so we bought a couple of sodas and had to wait a week for them to be emptied. It would have been nice to know in advance that they were needed so the kids could do the experiment on the actual day it was opened. As far as the age appropriateness and variety of experiments, I felt that these would be best for the lower end of the age range, and maybe even younger with adult supervision. Some of the topics like magnetism, water tension, etc. are often already done by kids ages 8-12+, so it was a bit repetitive for them, but they still enjoyed the activities regardless. A younger child (maybe age 6-9) who has not already learned all of this in their school lessons would probably have a higher level of interest.Overall a good kit with a nice variety of fun activities that actually work. Price at time of review is approx $30, and that seems fair, but not great, for this set.

BOXES FOLD OPEN TO REVEAL INSTRUCTIONS
I am advent calendar queen. I have specifically seen a number of science advent calendars. This is a box calendar, but not like others I have seen. There is a sleeve. You cut through all the tape, then slide out a cardboard tray. The 24 experiments are in 24 boxes in this cardboard tray. I do not like this design. Basically, your only viable option is to keep the entire tray out and displayed. You could shove it back into its sleeve on a daily basic, but that’s a delicate and unrewarding task. That said, the daily science boxes and instructions are by far the cleverest I have encountered. Typically, science advent calendars either have all of the directions in a separate booklet (in which case you can peek ahead and see what all of the experiments are) OR they have tiny instruction foldouts inside of each box or window (which can be challenging and annoying to read). But in this case, the entire box folds open to provide colorful and handy directions. Fabulous idea! This is a good brand and the experiments are good quality. Instructions are well written. It’s a good intelligent advent calendar.

Really good for younger ages
This is a good conversation starter advent kit. The experiments are very simplistic, so I would recommend them for younger aged kids. The experiments are still fun, and for the price not a bad advent calendar.

Interesting advent calendar for my 5 year old
We just started using this and already he’s engaged with the simple yet interesting experiments in this box. The explanations are simple and the learning/knowledge points are clearly illustrated but wordings are small, so adults have to read the instructions and the explanations if your little one is very young.

Cool idea
This is a great idea. This is a great idea for keeping children interested during the Christmas vacation and the run up to it. The presentation is in a traditional style and it was so much fun to open. Each experiment comes with instructions and covers a different topic. Brilliant!

an advent calendar that my daughter is actually excited about
My daughter and I are looking forward to this advent calendar. We both like to geek out over science principles and find excuses to do things together. This kit looks well thought out and assembled. I’ll update this review if anything doesn’t go as planned, but this looks like a win to us.

Not worth the money
It’s a well presented advent calendar but nothing exceptional at all in terms of science if you’ve gor a kid who’s into science they will of done the very basic experiments given each day. Very over priced for what it is

Not just for the Holidays!
We use this Science Calendar when our grandsons visit. Each day they are here, we open one of the “doors” and do the science fun enclosed. It has been AMAZING to connect with them in this way. Each one takes about 10-15 minutes at the most, but often they want to repeat the experiment or activity multiple times.

Great and useful
I searched and searched for the right advent calendar for my STEM minded 11 year old. I didn’t want junk, or candy. This engages him just long enough in the morning.. gets his mind going before school and then uses what his learns and applies it to others things! Great project!

Fun Countdown
Bought this for my 9yo son. He’s really been enjoying each days little experiment. We’re 9 days in and most haven’t required anything from around the house. Some are things he’s seen or done already, but it’s been fun and worth the time and money!

Lame
So far, this calendar has been an utter disappointment. The age group is for 8-12, my son is 11. The first day he got a magnet. The second day was a very cheaply made prism made from cardstock and plastic film. Third day was a single pipette. Nothing else. It’s so lame, and I feel bad for him. I’m going to order a new advent calendar for him, because this one sucks. His little sister has a science advent calendar from National Geographic and that one is amazing. The first day she got a pair of goggles and an acid/base reaction experiment, the second day was a rock, third day she has a glow in the dark mixture experiment. My son is a sweetheart and has a good sense of humor about how pathetic his calendar is

Terribly Disappointing Science Advent Calendar
Do not buy this science advent calendar for your kid if they like science because they will have done all the experiments before, and each day’s surprise will just bring more sadness and disappointment. It would be a marked improvement if each day contained a lump of coal because then we would have something interesting to talk about, and a source of warmth. If you have a child who has never done any science “experiments” and has not been exposed to any aspect of science then perhaps they will get excited by a pipette and the instructions to drop a water drop on a penny.I wish I could get a refund.

Wow! Great Advent Calendar for Kids who are into Stem!
This honestly is one of the best advent calendars that I’ve seen. It took me a bit to figure out that even the displays on the front of the boxes were clues to what was in the box. Try not to rip the boxes open when opening because there are instructions and facts written on the inside. Each box was fun to open with my kiddo, read through and do.

Beautiful and fun!
I got my kids a different brand of science advent calendar last year, and this one is so much better! I love how it’s divided into cute little boxes for each day- the items and instructions for that day are inside the numbered box. Fun little experiments working with different concepts and using simple items around your house. My two kids (9 and 6) are enjoying doing these together.

Beautiful design, fun experiments, lots of value
We are science geeks and also design geeks and this advent calendar checks all the boxes. There is a fun science experiment with parts and instructions to do each day (over 24 days), extra content online, and really nice graphic design and look-and-feel. The instructions for each day’s experiment are printed right inside each box, so there is no extra wasted paper for a manual book that you don’t need. Really beautiful presentation and looks nice sitting on the side table in our kitchen. Will be buying a few as gifts for the science-oriented kids and adults in our circles.

Fun twist on an advent calendar
This is such a neat idea for an advent calendar. It comes with instructions, individually, wrapped for each activity, which I love. I am excited to do each activity with my boys as we open each day. They seem to be short enough that they will be easy to keep up with. Overall, this is a fun alternative to food focused advent calendars.

Awesome advent calendar for any science lovers!
This is the season for advent calendars, and I’ve been looking for something “different” this year. My younger one is a science geek, and this particular calendar is a big hit! There are different experiments behind each door, and everything to run a particular experiment is included in each box. So far we’ve open 3 and had sooo much fun already! It’s a wonderful gift for any young scientist. Highly recommended!

Fun ideas…
This is not really my idea of an Advent Calendar though it uses the 24-day scheme with little boxes. The treats inside, however, are educational, not toys or candy, and to accommodate the varied contents the boxes are not of uniform size.Despite not exactly fitting the Advent wreath template, this is a fun set of experiments from an established maker of science toys and kits. The daily experiments sometimes require easily-gathered extra items, but the core ingredients are included in each day’s box.Interesting and educational, this is a fun collection of experiments. You could use this calendar to lead up to a birthday as easily as Christmas. The Christmas theme isn’t as prevalent in this set as in many other sets sold as Advent calendars.

Really cool advent calendar
My kids love advent calendars, but they have done them all. That was until we discovered this science experiment advent calendar. What a brilliant idea! It is unique and educational and fun! We loved watching our daughter do these independently and doing some of them alongside her. Great for those days without school before Christmas.

Great way to occupy family during the winter breaks
Ordered this advent calendar to incorporate fun and education during the long winter break.Opened one to see the “quality” and am pleasantly surprised. Looks like this will offer fun for the entire family.Packaged well and presented beautifully. The box was well contained and instructions were inside. Did not break apart any other box while opening which speaks to the durability of the “calendar”.Great for gifting and spreading holiday cheer as well

A fun and educational way to keep your child entertained during the holidays
My daughter always loves anything I get for her from Thames & Kosmos. Their products are always very educational as well as fun. My daughter loves science, so I know she will be delighted to receive this science advent calendar. I plan to give it to her as an early Christmas present on the first day of her winter vacation from school, so she can have something to keep her busy each day. Each of the 24 experiments is contained within its own box. When you unfold each one, the instructions are printed on the inside of the box. It’s a really nice design. This would make a great present for anyone you know who is interested in science.

Great gift for little scientists
Reviewing The Thames & Kosmos Science Advent Calendar | 24 STEM Experiments in Chemistry, Biology & Physics | Great for Winter Holiday Celebrations | Conduct Daily Experiments | Fun, Wholesome Family TraditionI got this to use with my granddaughter, and she is really loving it! She looks forward to opening each day’s science experiment. They are well made and well thought out, and just right for the little scientists in your life. Each day there is a box with a separate item. The printing on the box gives you a clue as to what it might be. Printed on the inside of the box is the experiment directions for that day. The whole family loves it, and we hope to get another one like this next year. What a great addition to a child’s STEAM experience!

Engaging and educational
This kit was great for a 10 year old boy that might spend a little too much time on screens. This kept him occupied and gave him an educational opportunity that he had fun with each day. Each little experiment is kept in its own little cardboard box and he actually learned some things that he talked about their application to other real world scenarios. Great activity. We did it at Christmas as intended, but this would also be good for summertime when the kids are bored and out of school.

Awesome advent calendar!
This is a very unique advent calendar. It is perfect for either boy or a girl. Each day is a cardboard box that unfolds like origami with a particular science subject. So far we have opened 3 of those with subjects on magnetism, light refraction and water tension. I got it for my 9 year old son and although some of the experiments and concepts are not new to him, they are still fun to do. And since both my husband and I are from scientific background, we can expand on the subjects to make them more challenging for our son. Even our 6 year old daughter joins in to observe scientific curiosities. We are very pleased with this year Thames & Kosmos Science Advent Calendar!

This is great and something different from the usual!!
This looks like it will be so much fun this Holiday Season for Advent! Like many families, I’m sure, we always get the advent boxes with a chocolate for each day. This is definitely going to be a very cool and great learning experience too to do each day instead! I can’t wait to try it each day and see how each experiment works out. I’m really looking forward to doing this together with my children this holiday season instead of that boring old piece of chocolate! I had no idea there were so many options for advent!!My kids absolutely LOVE science and science experiments so this is going to be Great! They also look simple enough and the set comes with everything you need to do each experiment! This is going to be a blast!I hope to get some great videos. If so, I will come back and share!

Grandson is enjoying going through the experiments during Advent.
We have gone through 4 days so far of the Advent experiment kit and our grandson is enjoying each experiment very much. The experiments are not highly complicated, but they are enjoyable for him and are very age appropriate. The written summaries of the experiment are well done and for the child that has interest in science, something new to learn every day of advent.

Something Different and Fun
I am very excited about this advent calendar. Most calendars have little trinkets or candy. This calendar gives a little bit of science and learning each day.You will have to pull out the boxes for each of the 24 days. You will need to flatten the boxes to read the directions, facts, and experiment details. The experiments range from optical illusions to magnets and water tests. They are short experiments that you can add even more to if your children are curious. It is perfect for the holidays, but would even work as a fun activity any month. The box is not Christmas themed.

For us science lovers and scientists at heart
I wish I had this as a kid because I would have loved this. This is so much more fulfilling than just opening a door with candy. Lots of great basic experiments and demonstrations to carry out. The box is uniquely printed, and each box unfolds with instructions. I can tell a lot of thought was put into developing this product. The science material seems to be well made. One cool thing is this can be enjoyed by the whole family, and everyone can get involved. I think this is a good bargain of a couple of dollars a day for a month of science.

Such a cool concept
Oh my goodness this is so cool! I love that the boxes are all different sizes and all mixed up. The colors are super vibrant and fun to look at and the numbers are very clear. So much to look at so it took me a minute to find the first one.But these are very cool because once you pull the box out you completely.unflod it and the instructions and pieces you need are inside. It may require a few extra things. For example the first box contains a magnet so all you need it to find things the magnet can pick up or stick to.Simple, classic, fun experiments at the tips of your kids fingers. Cannot wait til December to start this fun countdown.
